Deepening Practice in Hong Kong: Our Learning Communities

Deepening Practice in Hong Kong: Our Learning Communities

Since 2019, CATALYST Education Lab (CEL) has been dedicated to growing the practice of Compassionate Systems in Hong Kong's education sector. To support educators and leaders in this journey, we have established two key initiatives: the Community of Practice (CoP) for school-based teams and the Peer Practice Network (PPN) for individuals.

Hong Kong School-based Community of Practice (CompSys CoP)

Launched in the 2024-25 school year, the CompSys CoP is a year-long immersive journey for school teams dedicated to embedding Compassionate Systems within their unique contexts. This initiative supports schools in fostering a culture of well-being and deep thinking from the ground up.

This year, we are proud to partner with 13 schools, engaging teams of 4-10 principals and educators from each school as CEL Compassionate Systems Fellows.

Throughout the academic year, Fellows collaborate through a structured program designed to maximize learning and impact:

  • School-Based Study Groups: Regular meetings within each school to deepen understanding, plan experiments, and share feedback.

  • Cross-School Learning Events: Three multi-day convenings for all Fellows to connect, share insights, and learn from one another's experiences.

  • Cross-School Visits: Opportunities for teams to visit other participating schools to observe Compassionate Systems in action and foster peer learning.

  • Knowledge Enrichment Activities: Optional workshops and sessions with local and international practitioners to explore specific tools and topics in greater depth.

CompSyS PPN

Hong Kong Peer Practice Network (CompSys PPN)

Building on the success of the CoP and in response to growing interest, CEL is piloting the Compassionate Systems Peer Practice Network (CompSys PPN) in 2025-26. This network is designed for individuals from the broader education and social impact sectors who are passionate about practicing Compassionate Systems and wish to join a supportive community of like-minded peers.

The CompSys PPN offers a year-long journey for individuals to:

  • Connect and Collaborate: Convene with a dedicated group of practitioners to share experiences, brainstorm ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

  • Experiment and Integrate: Test and apply Compassionate Systems practices at both personal and professional levels, supported by a peer-driven learning environment.

  • Consolidate and Share: Synthesize collective learnings and share them with the wider education and social impact communities in Hong Kong and beyond.

The PPN is a peer-driven collaborative inquiry where Fellows steer their own journey by testing ideas in their contexts, reflecting together, and co-creating knowledge.
