Compassionate Systems Introductory Training 2026 in HK
The Center for Systems Awareness and CEL welcomed over 230+ participants to this year's Compassionate Systems Introductory Training in Hong Kong, facilitated in person by Co-founder Dr. Peter Senge, education leader Jacob Martin, and CEL's Executive Director Angele Law. Across the three days, participants built a shared toolkit including the Ladder of Inference, Stock and Flow Diagrams, and the Behaviour-over-Time Graph, alongside practices such as the Check-In and the Vision Principle for building trust and shared purpose. Participants also learned from each other through peer sharings and small learning circles throughout the training.

Compassionate Systems Peer Practice Network (PPN) 25-26: 4th Session
PPN’s fourth learning session moved from sensing into insight. Fellows paired up in a Peer Sensing Lab, taking turns as Explorer and Detective to separate raw data from interpretation. The group then turned to the Four Player Model to map the relational energy behind their systems. The session closed by naming the shift between earlier hypotheses and the ground truth participants uncovered.

Cultivating Leadership in Education (CLE): Saint Too Bloom Academy Visit
Shapers visited Saint Too Bloom Academy at the invitation of the school's leadership. The visit explored two themes: project-based learning and entrepreneurship, and student well-being and pastoral care. Shapers toured the campus, observed classes, and heard from teachers on learning support and neurodivergence. The day closed with lunch and conversation with students, followed by a discussion with school leadership.

Compassionate Systems Community of Practice (CoP) 25-26: Mid-term Convening
CoP Mid-term Convening brought together 80 educators from 13 schools to reflect on their first cycle of Compassionate Systems practice, under the theme "From Drop to Ocean". Teams surfaced insights from their school-based experiments through Exhibition Board Sharing, then heard from visiting educator Jacob Martin of Dulwich College Singapore before mapping their plans for Cycle 2. The next day, study group facilitators from the same schools met separately for the Facilitators' Gathering to reflect on their own facilitation practice and plan peer support.

Compassionate Systems Reunion Dinner with Peter Senge
To kick off a week of Compassionate Systems events in Hong Kong, CEL hosted a reunion dinner for Introductory Training alumni, featuring Dr. Peter Senge. The evening gave practitioners a chance to reconnect, share stories from their learning journeys and interact with Peter to uncover insights and puzzles.

“Systems Leadership for Social Impact” Interactive Dialogue Session
CEL convened a closed-door dialogue for Hong Kong foundation and social impact leaders, facilitated by Angele Law with Dr. Peter Senge and social entrepreneur Dr. Czarina Leung. Peter introduced the concept of a learning organisation and the pattern of shifting the burden, where quick fixes crowd out root-cause solutions. Czarina then shared how she has applied these ideas within her own organisation. The dialogue aimed to build a shared language among funders for supporting healthier, more resilient organisations.

Compassionate Systems Community of Practice (CoP) 25-26: Cross-school Visit to Marymount Secondary School
Marymount Secondary School hosted this cross-school visit, welcoming CoP Fellows into its classrooms. Visitors observed a Senior 5 Literature lesson that used mental models for character study, and a Senior 3 Compassionate Leadership module built around check-ins and thinking routines. The visit showed how Marymount weaves Compassionate Systems thinking into both subject teaching and its school-based leadership curriculum.

Learning and Teaching Expo 2026: An Insider’s Glimpse for Shapers
Shapers spent an evening with Rene Chu, Curator of Learning and Teaching Expo 2026, for a behind-the-scenes look at her team’s curatorial thinking under the theme "Reimagining Education: Human-Centric, Future-Ready". Discussion touched on agentic AI, global research on AI adoption in schools, and international education technology policy.

“Reawakening the Innate: Systems Intelligence in Education” with Dr. Peter Senge & Jacob Martin
Dr. Peter Senge and Jacob Martin led a session for a mixed group of newcomers and experienced practitioners, exploring what they described as humans' innate capacity for systems intelligence. Framed around education in the age of AI, participants took part in a Check-In practice and examined video examples of students and teachers putting systems thinking into practice, and discussed the value of collaborative learning as a human conduit for young people growing up in an AI-driven world.

Compassionate Systems Teaching and Learning Design Studio with Jacob Martin
CEL welcomed back Compassionate Systems practitioner Jacob Martin for a Teaching and Learning Design Studio with alumni of its Compassionate Systems programmes. Teachers applied Stock and Flow Diagrams and Connection Circles to their own subject areas. Jacob also led three rounds of Case Clinics, giving participants real-time feedback on their classroom plans and school practices.

“The Art of Listening: A Cross-School Parent Dialogue with
Dr. Peter Senge” Cross-School Parents Event
Parents from schools across CEL's Compassionate Systems Community of Practice gathered for a cross-school dialogue with Dr. Peter Senge. Peter introduced the Check-In Practice and the Four Player Model to help parents consider a more reflective connection with their children. Parents also had the opportunity to discuss stories and questions among mixed-school small groups.

Compassionate Systems Community of Practice (CoP) 25-26: Cross-school Visit to Rhenish Church Pang Hok Ko Memorial College
CoP Fellows visited Rhenish Church Pang Hok Ko Memorial College to see how the school brings Compassionate Systems into everyday school life. The host school showcased an interactive exhibition, originally built for students and later adapted for a parent day, where one station used a Stock and Flow diagram to help participants map what makes the school feel welcoming. Visiting teachers took part in a Study Group session, sharing how their own schools weave well-being and systems thinking into daily routines.

Compassionate Systems Community of Practice (CoP) 25-26: Cross-school Visit to St. Stephen's Girls' College
CoP Fellows visited St. Stephen's Girls' College to see Compassionate Systems put into practice across the school. Students from the Global Compassionate Climate Programme shared how tools like the Iceberg model moved from small group sessions into classroom lessons, assemblies, and posters around campus. Teachers from geography and biology described applying the same systems thinking tools in their own subjects, including a classroom debate using a climate simulator. Visitors also heard about plans to extend these practices through new student leadership roles and an overnight reflection camp.

Cultivating Leadership in Education (CLE): Shapers’ Shenzhen Study Trip
30+ Shapers travelled to Shenzhen to see how leading technology companies and universities approach innovation and leadership. The group visited Huawei's Bantian base, Tencent's Nanshan headquarters, and Southern University of Science and Technology. Discussions covered Huawei's Entropy Reduction leadership philosophy and how Tencent and the university are rethinking talent development in the age of AI. Shapers toured each campus, joined dialogues with corporate and academic hosts, and closed with a reflection workshop on the future of the Shaper community.​​​​

Compassionate Systems Community of Practice (CoP) 25-26: Cross-school Visit to Diocesan Girls' Junior School
CoP Fellows visited Diocesan Girls' Junior School to see the approach in practice. The host team shared how the Ladder of Inference is used in Primary 6 Religious Education lessons on truth and worldviews, and how a project called the P3 Sensing Journey helped the school understand young students' need for rest and social connection. Discussion centred on setting aside assumptions about students' needs and making space for reflection in daily school life.

Compassionate Systems Community of Practice (CoP) 25-26: Cross-school Visit to Diocesan Boys School Primary Division
CoP Fellows visited Diocesan Boys' School Primary Division to learn how they cultivated a parent learning community. The programme, a five-session evening workshop series, brings Compassionate Systems practices such as the Ladder of Inference and the Iceberg model into everyday parenting. Visitors joined small-group conversations with parents who had completed the workshops, then heard from the school's facilitators on how the series was designed and run.

CEL Principal Roundtable
Leaders from eight of CEL's Partner Schools gathered for the second Principal Roundtable of the 2025-26 academic year, with sharings spanning project-based learning, AI, and data in practice. A collaborative Broken Squares game invited leaders to experience firsthand how partial success can block a team's shared goal. Schools also shared how they are using AI to support teaching and reflection, alongside data dashboards that put insights directly in teachers' hands.

“From Firefighting to Flourishing: Cultivating a Resilient School Ecology with Compassionate Systems” Sharing at Learning and Teaching Expo 2026
CEL Executive Director, Angele Law, shared at the Learning and Teaching Expo 2026, joined by Vincy Ching and Fung Yee Choi from Rhenish Church Pang Hok Ko Memorial College. Together they explored how a school can move from constant firefighting toward a resilient, thriving culture. The school leaders shared real classroom examples of the Ladder of Inference for navigating peer conflicts and the Systems Thinking Iceberg for enriching lessons. Attendees left with practical, frontline ideas for building this kind of school ecology using Compassionate Systems tools.

“Cultivating Compassionate Systems Leadership” Sharing at InnoPower Keynote Learning Session
CEL's Executive Director, Angele Law, was once again invited by Hong Kong Jockey Club InnoPower Education Fellowship team to lead a sharing on "Cultivating Compassionate Systems Leadership". The session opened with a Check-In practice and an overview of Compassionate Systems, using the Systems Awareness Mandala. Fellows then worked through a Visioning Exercise and the Four Player Model to explore their own leadership dynamics.

Compassionate Systems Peer Practice Network (PPN) 25-26: 5th Session
PPN’s fifth learning session was themed "Finding Leverage: Designing the Shift". Participants used the Triangles Game to experience firsthand how a single shift can ripple through a system. They then used the Mandala for Systems Change to map out their next practice experiment. The session closed with participants sharing one insight and one open question with a peer.

Compassionate Systems Introductory Training 2026 Info Session
Ahead of the April 2026 Compassionate Systems HK Introductory Training, CEL ran two info sessions to introduce Compassionate Systems to Hong Kong educators. Each session opened with a Check-In practice and an overview of the framework's origins and tools. A panel of educators already applying Compassionate Systems in their own schools shared their experience. The sessions closed with guidance on how to apply for the training.

Compassionate Systems Peer Practice Network (PPN) 25-26: 6th Session
PPN’s sixth and final learning session brought together Fellows together with Plus Ones, Advisors, and Master Practitioners to mark the end of the year's journey. Fellows shared their learning through an Exhibition Board Sharing, with peer feedback built around resonance, curiosity, and possibility. The session closed with the Development Compass, helping Fellows map their next wise moves, before the group moved into a celebration dinner.

Compassionate Systems Community of Practice (CoP) 25-26: Closing Convening
The Closing Convening brought together over 130 participants (Fellows, school colleagues, and guests) to mark the end of the year-long Compassionate Systems Community of Practice, under the theme "Taking Root". Fellows shared their growth through an Individual Learning Canvas, then took part in the Broken Squares game, a silent challenge about letting go of individual wins for the group's success. School teams shared highlights from their year. The day closed with a ritual of gratitude, as participants wrote thank-you notes to those who had supported their journey.
